Attached is the preliminary agenda for the next CAPS Team meeting to be held at
Cosener’s House, Abingdon, UK. By now you all should have heard from Manuel Grande and,
I hope, have secured your reservations for the meeting.
This meeting will last a full two days. We will look at CAPS
checkout results and review plans for upcoming cruise activities. On the second day we
will begin the process of discussing the science objectives we plan to accomplish at
Saturn and begin spreading out the work of planning the tours. This is a topic that the
PSG and Cassini project have agreed must move forward. The basic plan for how the tour
will be divided up and what science is done when and where has to be in place by mid-2002
(SOI-2 years). That may seem like a long ways away, but given the degree of detail
necessary for the planning and the large scope of the mission we have to start the
process this year.
The PSG has chosen Tour T18-5 which is a good but not perfect choice
for particles and fields. Because we will start the tour planning at this meeting, I would
like to ask that you look through the T18-5 information on the CAPS web page
(Link) before the meeting.
(Note to Sylvestre—please check for the latest update on T18-5 and put this on the site if
at all possible.) Please come prepared to talk about those parts of the tour that are of
greatest interest you. I will ask that each Co-I (or designate) make a 15 minute informal
(but relevant) presentation as a way of exposing our areas of interest. In the coming days
I will put our statement of the CAPS science objectives and earlier CAPS-related materials
about the tour on our web site for your consideration.
