Meeting Agenda (PDF)

The 25th Meeting of the Cassini/CAPS team will be held at the beautiful La Posada de Santa Fe Resort and Spa on Wednesday, January 15th and Thursday, January 16th, 2003 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The initial plan is to have two full days of meetings, but a final agenda will be sent out as we get closer to the meeting dates. A block of rooms has been reserved at the La Posada Resort for meeting attendees. The Resort is located approximately two blocks from the Plaza, which is the historic heart of Santa Fe. See the Laposada De Santa Fe Web Site for hotel information, maps, etc.
The resort has agreed to keep room cost at or below the US Government Rate for our meeting. Currently, the rooms are priced at $99.00 per night but this may change slightly by the time of the meeting as the Government Rates are adjusted each year in October. You may make a reservation by calling 800-727-5276 or by faxing your request to 505-986-9646. Be sure to indicate that you are participating in the .Cassini/CAPS Team Meeting. to receive the reduced rate. Reservations must be made by 12/14/02, at which time unreserved rooms will be released. Note that the Resort has agreed that meeting participants who wish to stay longer can reserve a room for additional days before and/or after the meeting at the special meeting rate. Check-in time is 16:00 and check-out time is 12:00.
If you will only be in Santa Fe long enough to attend the full team meeting, you should plan on arriving Tuesday afternoon or evening and departing late Thursday or on Friday. We have the option of using the meeting room for an evening session if everyone would like to take one of the afternoons off and explore Santa Fe.
There are a number of ways to travel to Santa Fe, including car, train, air and shuttle. You can fly to Albuquerque, rent a car at the airport and then drive to Santa Fe. (Note that there is a $14/night fee for valet parking at the Resort). It is also possible to take a shuttle from the Albuquerque airport to the Resort. The cost is ~$23 each way. Another possibility is to fly a commuter airline into the Santa Fe airport from Denver and take a shuttle, taxi or rental car to the hotel. See Visiting Santa Fe web site for further transportation information. We are happy to help with arrangements.
Santa Fe is consistently rated as a top tourist destination. It is a small, quaint city that has a wide variety of museums, galleries, upscale shops and restaurants. There are many things to do both in town and in the surrounding outdoors. Several ski areas are located near Santa Fe, with Taos Ski Valley, about 90 minutes north of Santa Fe, being an exceptional destination (assuming we have snow this winter). The Resort is beautiful and there is a wide range of things for spouses and children to do, so bring them along and stay over. For general information on Santa Fe, go to: santaFe.org and santaFe.com.
For general questions or help with travel, logistics, etc., contact any of the LANL meeting organizers: Eloisa Michel at 505-667-2701 (emichel@lanl.gov), Bruce Barraclough at 505-667-8244 (bbarraclough@lanl.gov) and Michelle Thomsen at 505-667-1210 (mthomsen@lanl.gov). For hotel information and/or reservations, see contact info above.
We will have a viewgraph machine and a video projector with a Powerbook available for presentations. The projector should interface with almost any laptop you may wish to bring. Please let us know if you will need any other equipment for your presentation well before the meeting. We will have provision to send/receive phone messages, faxes and email at the hotel. There will be a no-host icebreaker in the elegant Staab House Bar of the La Posada on the evening of Tuesday, January 14th from 17:00 to 19:00 so team members can meet, get information on arrangements and places to eat dinner, etc. There will be refreshments served mid-morning and mid-afternoon of both meeting days. Participants will be on their own for meals: the Resort has a (rather pricey but excellent) restaurant, Fuego, and there is a wide range of excellent restaurants of all types within easy walking distance of the hotel. We are planning on organizing a team dinner on Wednesday evening and we may be able to add a social event afterward at one of the many exciting venues that exist in Santa Fe.
The weather in Santa Fe during January is generally clear, bright and cool during the day and cold at night. There may be snow in the city during your visit. You should definitely bring your sweater and/or jacket, but you will probably not need a heavy coat unless you are planning on skiing, hiking or engaging in other outdoor activities in the mountains. Hope to see you at the team meeting in January, The LANL Organizers
