Transportation:
Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is about 28 road miles (45 km) north of the Residence Inn, about a 35-min drive in non-rush-hour traffic. Houston Hobby Airport (HOU) is about 12 road miles (19 km) southeast of the Residence Inn, about a 20-min drive in non-rush-hour traffic. Thus, Hobby Airport is more convenient, but is only available for certain domestic routes. Each airport has bus service to the hotel about twice per hour, and taxicab/super-shuttle service on demand. For those who choose to rent a car at the airport, the "Maps & Transportation" page at the Residence Inn web site has good driving directions.

From San Antonio, driving and flying take about the same amount of time, ~ 3 hr in non-rush-hour traffic. See http://www.mapquest.com/ for driving directions.

Sustenance:

Breakkfast is provided with your room at the Residence Inn, and available for purchase at the other hotels. Coffee and tea will be provided at the meeting site. Pastries are available for purchase all day at the student-run coffee house just down the hall. Lunch is available for purchase at three locations in the student center, or at the Rice faculty club a short walk away, or from many restaurants in the Rice Village just west of the stadium (maps will be provided later). There will be a team dinner Monday night, with transportation provided, at a restaurant TBD. For dinner Sunday and Tuesday nights, you will be on your own, but we are happy to provide advice. The best general advice is to take a cab (or drive) to the Rice Village area and browse the many restaurants and bistros there. All rooms at the Residence Inn have fully equipped kitchens. Droubi Imports (deli/grocery) is 0.2 miles (0.3 km) south on Main Street at Kirby.

Houston Weather is usually quite pleasant this time of year. For 30 October the average high/low temperatures are 78/58 F (26/14 C), and the record high/low temperatures are 89/38 F (32/3 C). Rain is always a possibility.
